Labor

Im posting in OBG now--obstetrics and gynaecology.

During this posting, i will have to learn how to take history and examine the woman--normal, before delivery, after delivery, has some symptoms of disorder or disease. or at least, i got the chance to observe how a lady is examined. Besides that, the most important experience we are going to gain is to observe the ultrasound scanning and Labor--either a normal vaginal delivery or caeserean section (operation)!

being the second person in the group, i am scheduled to be in the labor theathe in the first day. i was so happy when i got to know that there is a lady awaiting inside for labor. This doesn't always happen as we can never expect when is the lady going to labor. Many people ddin't see anything throughtout the posting because of no luck..:s

Luck was with me! the 1st lady is a primi--meaning first time giving birth. she was there since morning 11 o'clock. i had been watching her facial expression, body movement, non stress test fr her baby's heart rate, palpating her uterine contraction, her files...everything, til 2 something pm. then, another lady walked in. the nurse helped her to do the preparation for labor--clear the bladder, shaved all the pubic and abdominal hair and so on. She has more frequent and intense pain than the first one. and after i read her file, i knew that she is a multi (delivered at least once)

by 2.30 pm, the intern and the nurse started to prepare for her delivery. emm...so FAST?! she has just came in?! then, 2 postgraduate doctor came. one looked weird due to the sling bag she was carrying; another one kept talking and rushing here and there. i thought she is an OBG doc but she turns out to be a postgraduate only. She found think meconium from the vaginal, some blood is coming out...
wait..think meconium?! its dangerous!? should she go for operation????

the PG finally called up someone. and for the next 15-20 minutes, they did nothing but wait for the doctor to come. WHen dr Girija came, she realized that the cervix dilatation of the mother is already 10cm, meaning its large enough for labor already!! she used her 2 fingers to pull the hymen down to make the hole bigger! but excuse me? she hasn't put on the apron or anything except for glove and cap?! as well as other stuffs. all of the stuffs turn backwards and let their backs facing the patient to prepare the attire and instrument. i saw some black colour thing came out from the vagina but how am i going to know that its the baby's head?!!?

suddenly, someone shouted:' baby's head is out!' then the doc and all the stuffs turn back and surrounds the mother, trying to hold the baby's head. i was pushed away and i stepped back 2 steps. and when the stuff goes away from the mother, the baby is carried to the tray waiting aside for warming and the paediatrician went over to examine the baby.

i was like ..HUH? THat's it?!! so fast?!
not even 10 sec wor!?!?!!
yao mou gam fai ar...??????

fine...though the mother has delivered, there is still many things to monitor. they have to suture back the torn vagina..gosh, god knows how painful is that?! and i can say that the PG was very unconcerned and rude to the mother! is normal for any part of the body to escape and goes away from pain okay?! how can she scold the mother?!!???? yer!!

i skipped the class to see all the procedures. i saw everything from the beginning till the end but i missed the most important part of the labor--the stages and process of the baby coming out. Am i considered as i have seen a delevery process? i doubt, but for sure, im a blessed one to have the opportunity to see it!
